Day 30

Day 30, 6 hours of work done. I am adding up all the time that I have spend putting additional coats of epoxy on my boat to make things simple. We also had to but the fiberglass off of the edge of the boat and that really made it look nice. If it were a canoe we would be done, but who wants a canoe when you can kayak?

Day 26

Day 26, 2 more hours of work done. Finished sanding the hulls to 220 after filling the gaps. Then we turned the boats up on their sides keel to keel (Good idea Dad!) and installed one foot peg on each boat. We also put a little more epoxy on some of the fillets to get rid of the weave. Once the boats were turned up we noticed some bare areas were the cockpit glass met with the sheer clamps so we made sure it was all sealed.

Day 23

Day 23, 2 1/2 more hours of work done. It was a busy night. We made the dams for the bow and stern end pours and then filled them with a thick epoxy and woodflour mix. We were carefull to allow a little room for over flow this time so nothing bubbled over. We also put a final coat on the bow stern and cockpit sections. Once that was all done we were waiting to watch the endpours. We wanted to be sure that if they did bubble over we could catch it at the get go. So, while we waited, we did one set of hatch covers.

Day 20

Day 20, 2 1/2 hours of work done. I got back from training so Dad's no longer alone on this build. Tonight we put the fillets in the bow and put a light coat of epoxy over them. Trimming the rough edge of the glass tape works great expect it tends to fray a little bit. The fraying is far better than the sharp edge that was left on by not trimming it. We also talk more about how we plan to finish our boats. Dad found some great fabric of dragons that he plans to put on his, I am still leaning towards using the blue/green stain and some blue or green sea dragons. I might have to name my boat The Kraken. Dad has picked out his name, he'll be paddling the Bonsai Dragon.
